Summary:

The primary responsibilities for this position are to implement, manage, and maintain a VMware virtual desktop infrastructure, including; infrastructure monitoring and maintenance, image management, desktop application installation, user profile management, performance monitoring, and troubleshoot/resolve any system problems. Additional duties include providing security analysis and remediation, along with general data center related tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, monitor, and maintain all aspects of virtual desktop platform:

  • Maintain and update base images.

  • Installation of user applications upon approved request.

  • Remediate security findings.

  • Upgrade infrastructure specific applications; VMware Horizon, AppVolumes, DEM.

  • Perform all duties associated with the Data Center Services Team, directed by DCS Leadership

  • Work with Systems Support teams, Application Operations teams, or pertinent business units, to validate systems are deployed and functioning as expected.

  • Perform configuration tuning as necessary.

  • Create documentation based on standardized templates and update any previous documentation with new changes.

  • Ensures that all supported systems are highly reliable, secure, and performing at acceptable levels. 

  • Performs root cause analysis of outages and ensures they are repaired.

  • Reviews any new patches or releases that would improve performance or are recommended by the vendor.

  • Continually enhances alarming and system monitoring for servers and network.

  • Aids in the research, development and deployment of new technologies and multi-vendor integration. 

  • Implements and maintains a consistent backup and disaster recovery plan.

  • Ensures timely and effective delivery of upgrades and new configurations.

  • Participates in planning design, technical review and implementation for new infrastructure hardware and operating systems.

  • Assists in developing ongoing security strategy

  • All other duties assigned.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Official training in vendor specific curriculum.

  • Industry Specific certifications: VMware Certified Professional

Basic Requirements:

  • 2 -3 years’ experience with VMware virtualization technologies.

  • Show knowledge of VMware virtualization principles and practices.

  • 2 -3 years’ experience with Windows Server operating systems required.

  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and DNS.

  • 2 -3 years’ experience of physical and virtual server builds.

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP with the ability to demonstrate and describe networking fundamentals.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across multiple projects and team members.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and work independently, with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.

  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and analyze problems to identify alternative solutions.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Associates degree in a computer-related field and/or equivalent job experience.

  • Official training in vendor specific curriculum.

  • Relevant industry certifications; CompTIA, Microsoft, VMware, Cisco.
