System Engineer I – Storage and Backup


Location:         La Vista, NE (On-Site)

Advisor Group has returned to a hybrid work schedule, so we are seeking candidates willing to work a split schedule between home and the office. 

Summary:

The primary responsibilities for this position are to implement and maintain datacenter backup and storage systems.  Review performance of platform, make adjustments as necessary.  Manage and maintain software and firmware levels of systems on a regular basis.

Secondary responsibilities include management of general datacenter equipment including; storage, compute, and virtualization, monitor performance, and troubleshoot/resolve any system problems. Additional duties include providing security analysis and general data center related tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties associated with the Data Center Services Team, directed by DCS Leadership

  • Manage, monitor, and maintain backup and storage systems.

  • Work with System Administration teams and Application Operations teams to validate all systems are backed up based upon requirements

  • Performs all pertinent duties with Windows and Linux operating systems.

  • Perform configuration tuning as necessary

  • Create documentation based on standardized templates and update any previous documentation with new changes

  • Ensures that all supported systems are highly reliable, secure, and performing at acceptable levels. 

  • Performs root cause analysis of outages and ensures they are repaired.

  • Reviews any new patches or releases that would improve performance or are recommended by the vendor.

  • Continually enhances alarming and system monitoring for servers and network.

  • Aids in the research, development and deployment of new technologies and multi-vendor integration

  • Implements and maintains a consistent backup and disaster recovery plan

  • Ensures timely and effective delivery of hardware upgrades, network upgrades and new configurations

  • Participates in planning design, technical review and implementation for new infrastructure hardware and operating systems for voice and data communication networks

  • Assists in developing ongoing security strategy

  • Performs various projects and tasks assigned by manager

  • All other duties as assigned

Education Requirements:

  • Associates degree in a computer-related field and/or equivalent job experience minimum of high school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Official training in vendor specific curriculum.

  • Entry level industry certifications preferred; Comptia, Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, etc.

Basic Requirements:

  • 2 years experience using an enterprise class backup software and hardware

  • 2 years experience with Windows Server operating systems required.

  • Experience writing scripts to automate common tasks

  • Knowledge of Microsoft clustering, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and Windows networking

  • 2 years experience of physical and virtual server builds and with VMware virtualiziaiton technologies

  • Working knowledge of storage systems, SAN technologies, NAS technologies

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP with the ability to demonstrate and describe networking fundamentals

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across multiple projects and team members

  • Ability to organize, prioritize and handle multiple tasks

  • Ability to build and maintain server and network hardware

  • Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary

  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting, analyze problems, and identify solutions

  • All other duties as assigned
