Senior Accountant

Summary:

The Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for supporting Advisor Group’s Accounting function, which broadly encompasses financial reporting and analysis, monthly close process, strong understanding of US GAAP, and maintaining controls over financials reporting. In this capacity, he/she will play a leading role in various accounting efforts within the group while developing and managing relationships with key leaders / stakeholders within various business units.

Responsibilities:

  • Integral in month end close process including ownership of explaining results in assigned accounts
  • Reviews the monthly A/P accrual
  • Coordination with the legal department for the purposes establishing appropriate legal reserves
  • Develop, maintain and distribute reporting to cost center and project owners
  • Oversee accounting for fixed assets, ensuring correct application of company policy
  • Review expenditures for proper coding to the chart of accounts
  • Oversee reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and perform research as needed
  • Document assigned transaction cycles with the ability to engage business stakeholders to develop thorough understanding of processes
  • Continuous improvement of accounting processes
  • Represent accounting department on projects in various business initiatives
  • Assist in preparation/review of external audit requests
  • Develops and maintains excellent relationships with colleagues across business units
  • Mentor junior team members
  • All other duties as assigned

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting is required
  • Active CPA highly preferred

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-6 years’ combined experience in public accounting or in a large corporate accounting environment
  • Solid knowledge of financial statements and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to research technical accounting matters and document conclusions
  • Experience with general ledger applications; advanced proficiency in MS Office products, particularly Excel
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Problem solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, emphasis on the ability to effectively communicate with other departments
  • Self-starter who will anticipate challenges and work proactively to resolve issues
  • Team player with customer service mentality

Preferred Requirements:

  • Prior financial services industry experience
  • Public accounting experience at a Big 4 or large regional firm
